The interiors immaculate compared to the exterior.

I think it is technically a boat. It just uses ground effect once it gets up to speed.

Indeed, but I do like that patina.

even if not nuclear tipped those missles are capable of mach 3, with a 600lb warhead and the size of telephone pole.

Back in the day, ekranoplans were a frequent Jalopnik topic.

‘Back in the day’, before the nightmare and darkness of 2020. Lol.
Ye', I can remember posting and replying quite a lot about these planes.

Of course, my “back in the day” re Jalopnik is the Davey G/Loverman era.

I never really understood how they thought it would fine being limited to only good weather/no waves. Seems like the only value would be as like a highspeed, long distance, landing craft you can only use on a calm, sunny day.

I love these things, they’re so utterly cold war mental - I wrote a general interest paper on them back in university. I didn’t know the Lun survived in such good condition, I really hope they can salvage it.
The smaller A90 O
rlyonock
landing craft type were always my favorite.
There’s still an unfinished sister to the Lun
sitting in mothballs somewhere.

Used to be a Navy anti-ship missile tech, these are still VERY common to see in training, shit I’ve had these pointed at me.
https://www.military.com/video/guided-missiles/antiship-missiles/russian-supersonic-missile-blows-away-vessel/4156566704001
This video (about 1/3 of the way through) shows how they hit, a 1-2 punch going all the way through the ship lengthwise.
These scare me.

Jesus Christ. We have something that does that too, right? Right?

We have some new stuff coming down the pipeline that is pretty good, but the rest is really just the Harpoon, which has been around for a minute.

That’s some Captain Marvel-fly-through-the-bad-guy’s-space ship level of shit. Probably more energy than explosive.

It is neither a boat nor an airplane. It is ground effect vehicle.

The terminal velocity is absurd, granted that target was “just” a ship and had no armor or anything like that, however having been on U.S. Naval vessels around that size I don’t see it ending any differently.

That story of the photographer creeping in is incredible. She made history.
